Yet, tough fiscal times also are a time when innovation becomes a necessity. How can your district leadership team get the vision to strategically use technology? How do you break down the silos that keep our school districts from innovation? How can we avoid the “deer in the headlights” syndrome, and creatively using tough fiscal times to create a 21st century educational system.

Session Title: Effective School Board Meetings

Date: Friday, December 4

Presenters:

  • Diane Sandifer, former Harris County Board Chair (currently Account Executive, eBOARDsolutions)
  • Dr. Susan Andrews, former Harris County Superintendent (currently Muscogee County Superintendent)

Session Description: Often we are instructed on what NOT to do in school board meetings.  But, what does a GOOD meeting look like?  Collaboration, accountability, and transparency are best practices that should be evident in a school board meeting.  Superintendent Andrews and Board Chair Sandifer will demonstrate an example of a professional, successful school board meeting.   As they go through a typical agenda, they will model good governance through following a strategic plan, tying each agenda item to the appropriate plan, and addressing the policy making role of board members.
