Again! Georgia’s School Boards Shine in National Survey of Tech-savviness

Georgia’s school boards have once again dominated the top ten winners circle of the Center for Digital Education and the National School Boards Association Annual Digital School Boards Survey. The study examines how school boards and their school districts are applying information technology to better engage their local communities and constituents, and improve their delivery of services and quality of education to public schools.

The survey extends far beyond whether or not online services and information exists in the district. It asks in-depth questions about topics such as how technology and data are used in the decision-making process and what strategies the district employs for technology usage in the classroom.

All U.S. school boards are invited to participate in this survey. They are grouped into three categories based on student population (small, medium and large). Georgia school boards took 9 out of 38 top-ten awards nationally; more than double the number of any other state. Rankings by Georgia Districts were as follows:

Large Districts (15,000 or more students)
1st Cherokee County Board of Education, Georgia
3rd Forsyth County Board of Education, Georgia
8th Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education, Georgia
10th Newton County Board of Education, Georgia

Medium Districts (2,501 - 15,000 students)
5th Barrow County Board of Education, Georgia (tie)
5th Jones County Board of Education, Georgia (tie)
6th Marietta City Board of Education, Georgia
9th Camden County Board of Education, Georgia

Small Districts (2,500 or fewer students)
7th Chickamauga City Board of Education, Georgia

Georgia School Boards Association Executive Director Jeannie M. (Sis) Henry said, "This is the fifth year that Georgia’s local boards of education have demonstrated excellence in the use of technology at the governance level. GSBA supports every board in the state in efforts to reach higher levels of achievement."
